Sand Dollar

Inspired by the rare and protected sea urchins, known as “Sand Dollars”, this special limited edition collection in collaboration with jewelry designer Tamara Comolli includes pendants in yellow and rose gold with blue and yellow sapphires and green tsavorites, perfect for the current layering trend.

The Sand Dollar was born as a symbol for our love for water, the beach and nature. Symbolically this special talisman also stands for the preservation of unique living creatures of the ocean. It naturally reminds its wearer of our most important element, water.

The Tamara Comolli Sand Dollar is made of 18K gold and adorned with colorful sapphires. The drop shaped gaps are recreated from the ones of the original Sand Dollar and portray the brand symbol of Tamara Comolli. A design, which creates pure ease and joie de vivre.  A timeless piece of jewelry, for summer and winter. In comparison to the prickly sea urchins, the Sand Dollar is extremely flat and covered with thousands of fine spines, which are rather furry. They live on sandy floor, mostly in tropical and subtropical oceans, where they move with the tides. Sand Dollar captivate through their geometrical design and the beautiful surface detail, the familiar pattern of a starfish.

The sun bleached Sand Dollars, which are washed to the coast, were often recognized as large silver coins like the old American or Spanish dollar. Since then, they are called Sand Dollars and are also known as sand cakes, cake urchins and sea cookies. They usually live 8-10 years and just like counting the rings on a tree stump, you can count the growth rings on the plates of the Sand Dollar to see how old they are.

When a sand dollar breaks, five dove-shaped pieces emerge. Doves are often used in art and literature as a symbol of peace and goodwill.
